Site analysis

The site analysis is focused on the river (as a water element – the most important in the city) and Sneinton where I am going to propose my design.

1820s - map of Nottingham

1880s - Nottingham startes being developed. More industries have been installed based on the trade of the river.

1950s- the city of Nottingham has been developed even more and the railways have been expanded more to cover the current demands of the era.

The map above shows the levels of  deprivation - Education and skills. Sneinton is an area with quite low educational level and this is related with the high levels of teenage pregnancy as if they were more informed and educated they could protect themselved more effectively.

Sneinton has health problems and quite a lot unexploited boreholes. It is an area that needs urgent intervention.

Green and opes spaces in Nottingham, especially around the river. This will gibe to my scheme the relaxing and calming atmosphere I would like to have. 

Water as an independent existence. The role of water was catalytic for the configuration and life of the cities. Nottingham is not an excemption.

The geology map of Sneinton. It is mainly made of Nottingham Castle sandstone and alluvium. The existence of sandstone gave me the idea to use theesxtractes sand stone of my site as the principal material of my building.

Main trasportation routes in the area of Sneinton.

 Typologies of Sneinton. The majority of Sneinton is residential houses. Whereas under the railways it is mainly industrial buildings. At the same time there are lots of schools, especially primary schools, and educational centers. Nottingham academy, one of the biggest schools on UK is established in the area of sneinton as well.

Intensities. Important places in Sneinton with high movement as some of them are in strategic sites.

According to the above facades the materiality of Sneinton in colour is mainly red from the red brick and green from the many green and open space it has.

The first approach for a master plan.

Site location. It is next to the Nottingham Academy on Sneinton Boulevard. on top of the hill with great view.

Site description. It is a challenging site on top of the hill with great view from both sides and next to the green park. In addition it is on a road with lots of schools. This means that can be approachable from the teenagers.
