Exploratory work

The following step is the application of these ideas from the collage and the diagram in more programmatic spaces. I started exploring through a series of concept models and collage the spaces (the pool, the waiting area, the birth pool, the education space, and the entrance) and their atmosphere. This means how the light will get into the space, how the water flow will be, and the different levels of the spaces into the building according to their uses. One basic idea for the lighting was the vertical tubes which bring natural light into the pool space. The idea came from the boreholes which bring water from the ground into the building. If you turn them upside down you have the tubes that bring light from the sky into the building. So mentally there is a connection between the sky and the ground into the building. In every model I was interested about the shadows of the light into the building and the different shapes they have. This is a type of richness into the building.

Vice Versa: the boreholes bring natural water in the building and the tubes above (vice verse the boreholes) bring natural light into the building. Mentally connection of the earth and sky into the building.

This space here in the model represents the educational space during pregnancy where the shadows of the small holes on the wall especially on the water represent the roughness of the difficult times they face.

These small holes have triangular shapes as the three groups (before pregnancy, during and after) that the building is targeted to. 

In the educational space the water is in a continuation with the light which falls peacefully onto the water. It is quite acceptable that light represents the knowledge, something similar is happening here.

The idea of lighting into the birth pool came from the holy spaces where the light comes from narrow openings to compose a holistic atmosphere. The same will happen here as the time of childbirth is a holistic and memorable moment in our lives.

The waiting has a water element as well which is semi open and semi under a glazed floor. The idea is to connect through the water the waiting area with the birth pools (having both the same width of water) while both group of people are in the same place facing the same agony.
