Research Findings
Looking for places offering birth in water in the city of Nottingham I found out that Nottingham has the highest rates of teenage pregnancy in UK and Western Europe. I also found that Sneinton is an area in the city of Nottingham which faces this problem more than any other area in the city. However there are no effective efforts of the local society to help minimizing the rates.
The tables above depicts the high reates of teenage pregnancy in Nottingham. This looks quite alarming.
Teenage pregnancy is a national problem and the government of UK
proposes a strategy to minimize the high national rates of this phenomenon. In
the meantime the local government of Nottingham promotes its own strategy,
which follows the national one. The main aspects of these strategies is the
establishment of more places reaching SRE (Sexual Relationship Education) and
if possible independent from schools. Boys and parents should be included in
the facing of the problem as they are 2 groups quite neglected and isolated
from the issue. It is an urgent need for the country to minimize these rates as
this problem costs lots of money to the country and about 63 million pounds to
NHS.
Part of the solution could be the program for apprenticeship in order to
train teenagers and develop specific skills which could help them live a proper
life.
The able above and below exhibit the strategy of UK's government, Nottingham's strategy and Sneinton's problem.
More clearly table showing the strategy of each part.
Apprenticeship was one part of the proposal (Nottingham's and UK's) in order to face the phenomenon of the high rates of teenage pregnancy. They develop their skills on a particular field giving to young people the ooportunity to live a better life.
The strategy of UK's and Nottingham's in bubble diagram which clarifies the common proposal's of the 2 strategies and what is missing in Sneinton.
Diagrams showing how the proposals could be applied in my scheme. I started approaching my design program. This will help me find the prpogram and the spaces of my design theis.
These were some of the sites I visited to learn about the UK's and Nottingham's strategy in order to minimize the teenage pregnancy - some of them explain Sneinton's current situation and needs.
